A foggy day finds Starscream, Ramjet, Rumble, and Ravage on the losing side of a skirmish with Hoist and Warpath. Detecting energy nearby, Rumble leads the other Decepticons into a strange stone structure. Inside, they find several stones, one of them inscribed with rune-like letters. Trapped inside the construction due to a laser blast from Warpath, Starscream runs a finger across the inscription, and moments after, the Autobots have vanished and the entrance is clear. Before long, Starscream encounters Sir Wagend du Blackthorne, the knight, and learns that they are no longer in the 20th century, but in the year 543 AD. Ulterior motives brewing within, Starscream offers to aid Sir Wagend against his arch-foe, Sir Aetheling the Red. Sir Aetheling's daughter Nimue overhears their conversation and rushes to warn him. She runs into Spike, Hoist, and Warpath, who offer to help her. Later, Sir Aetheling prepares for a jousting tournament put on to reconcile his differences with Sir Wagend, a dispute over land property. Wagend rejects Aetheling's non-violent proposition, instead demanding a duel in which Rumble and Ramjet unsuccessfully face off against Sir Aetheling and Warpath. Starscream kidnaps Nimue and takes over Sir Wagend's castle, planning to build a sovereign rule. In order to defend the stronghold, Starscream commands the gathering and assembly of the ingredients required to make gunpowder, but even though the Autobots are repelled, both sides suffer the pains of energy depletion. A dynamo is created to recharge the Decepticons, but the magical workings of Beort, a wise old sorcerer, help Hoist and Warpath conquer their adversaries even as Wagend redeems himself by rescuing Nimue. Accord restored to the sixth-century countryside, Spike and the Transformers are safely returned to their own time.
