While on reconnaissance, Buzzsaw and Laserbeak detect powerful emissions of energy coming from beneath the Atlantic Ocean. Eager to control the source of the emanations, Megatron and his troops soon converge on the spot in full force and submerge. As they approach the center of the emissions, however, they discover that the energy is not simply theirs for the taking. A strange underwater people, led by the powerful Nergill, king of Subatlantica, resides there. They initially clash, but realizing that Nergill's hunger for power is equal to his own, Megatron proposes they band together to conquer the world, both sides secretly intending to dispose of each other once power is obtained. The Autobots are later alerted to the energy discharge and quickly move out to investigate. Most of the Autobots evade an attack by the combined forces of the Decepticons and the Subatlanticans, but Wheeljack is captured. Nergill plans to use him to create weapons against both the Autobots and the Decepticons. Nergill next orders the transport of Subatlantica to Washington, D.C., where the conquest of the entire world is to begin. The Autobots follow and combat ensues. Managing to bypass a dome of invulnerability that now covers D.C., Bumblebee and Spike free Wheeljack. The Dinobots arrive, breach the dome, and pound the Decepticons. The crazed Nergill retreats to Subatlantica, preferring the total destruction of his underwater city to the Dinobots' devastation of same. Wheeljack is too late to stop him detonating the energy stockpiles, and both Decepticons and Autobots are left to evacuate the city as it sinks into the ocean for good.
