As the Autobots busy themselves increasing the security of their base with metal-detecting sensor panels, a transmission comes through from one Dr. Fujiyama, a renowned Japanese scientist. He enlists the services of the Autobots to guard his latest creation: a female ninja robot, the first of its kind, dubbed Nightbird. Curious, Optimus Prime agrees to the assignment and takes a group of Autobots with him to secure the building in which Fujiyama presents his creation to the world of science. Several Autobots find Nightbird laughable, but the Decepticons do not share this opinion as they invade the building and steal the robotic ninja before the Autobots can fully get their wits about them. Optimus vows to return Nightbird unharmed and returns to base with his forces for repairs. Shortly after, Bombshell upgrades Nightbird at a temporary base, reprogramming her to obey Megatron as well as increasing her powers. She is soon on her way to execute his first order: stealing the World Energy Chip contained within Teletraan 1. She successfully evades the Autobots' security measures, obtains the chip, and mysteriously disappears after being spotted. The Autobots go after her, but the promise to avoid harming her leaves them at a distinct disadvantage. Containing her proves to be all but impossible. Megatron raves about her prowess and threatens to replace Starscream with her, causing the air commander to attack him. Starscream is imprisoned, but escapes in time to put Nightbird out of action before both the Autobots and the Decepticons. Megatron and the Decepticons pursue Starscream while the Autobots reclaim both the chip and Nightbird and return her to Fujiyama, who resolves never again to activate her.
