The Decepticons, destitute in the wake of the last great war's conclusion, fight among themselves over a small supply of energon that Astrotrain barely manages to bring back to Chaar, the burned-out planet they now inhabit. Cyclonus, Scourge, and the Sweeps break up the squabbling Decepticons, berating them for behaviour unbecoming of the followers of Galvatron. Meanwhile, the Autobots mark the entrance into a new age of galaxy-spanning goodwill by arranging the very first Galactic Olympics as Blurr and Wheelie are entrusted with an important mission: bringing a new transformation cog to Metroplex, whose old cog was destroyed in a Decepticon strike against Autobot City. However, a group of shadowy assailants attack and abduct Kup, Ultra Magnus, and Spike and turn the Olympic stadium into a smoking battleground. Certain that the trespassers were Decepticons, Rodimus Prime vows to retrieve his stolen friends at any cost. The Autobot leader places the planet under quarantine, but Arcee and Springer ignore the order and leave the area to follow a Skuxxoid ship, which is carrying the accomplice to the mysterious intruders, after it abruptly takes to the air. As this happens, Cyclonus, Scourge, and the Sweeps invade the head of Unicron and search his memory bank to determine what became of Galvatron. Discovering he is still alive, the loyal lieutenants resolve to rescue him and return to raise the spirit of the unhappy inhabitants of Chaar with the news. Meanwhile, Springer and Arcee catch up with the Skuxxoid, who tricks them into believing that the Decepticons are responsible for the disappearance of their friends. As they tell him to make himself scarce so they can take over his asteroid ship, Rodimus Prime and Grimlock learn the location of Chaar and go there to investigate. Just as they realize the Decepticons are too weak to have taken Kup, Ultra Magnus, and Spike prisoner, Cyclonus spots them and orders the Decepticons to attack.
