The Autobots' getaway from Quintessa is only partially successful, as a fragment of the exploding planet hits and destroys their ship, sending them careening through space toward an unidentified planet. Meanwhile, as Galvatron and his lieutenants head for Charr, they enter a warpgate and find an Earth Defense Command space platform on the other side. The Decepticons strike against the platform just as Blurr and Wheelie arrive to dock at it. The two of them eject before Galvatron can destroy their ship. The events are intercepted by Earth Defense Command captain Marissa Faireborn, who absconds in a ship of her own to salvage the Autobot duo, who in turn are battling the enemy troops in the midst of a violent Jupiter storm created by a devastating blast from Galvatron's electro-chemical laser cannon. As Blurr and Wheelie lose control and plunge down toward Io, the Quintessons revel in the apparent destruction of the Autobots, but they soon learn that their enemies have in fact survived. With some apprehension, the Quintessons determine that the only way to achieve their aim is to join forces with the Decepticons. Shortly after, Spike and the Autobots land on Goo #8739-B, a planet whose surface consists almost exclusively of slime and mucus. They encounter a giant trash compactor that sucks up and destroys Springer, who, being stuck in the slime, is unable to move out of harm's way. The machine then turns its attention to Rodimus Prime, but the Autobot leader manages to plug it up with glop and shut it down. While the Autobots gather themselves, the Quintessons land on Charr to ally with the Decepticons, luring them with the promise of limitless energon supplies. Galvatron later lands on Charr to find the lone Blitzwing -- the only Decepticon not to join the Quintessons -- and together they leave to castigate the deserters. As sinister creatures lurk in the shadows of the Jovian landscape near the unconscious Blurr and Wheelie, the Quintesson-led Decepticons attack the Autobots on Goo.
