Six construction vehicles rob a construction site of a number of components of innovative Earth technology, including a set of special energy discs and a power converter. Revealing themselves to be Constructicons, they return to Megatron, where the creation of a unique apparatus immediately commences. Counting on Optimus Prime's sense of honour, Megatron then approaches Autobot Headquarters and challenges him to a duel, as in accordance with the laws of Cybertron, the loser must agree to eternal exile in deep space. Optimus accepts, little suspecting that Megatron intends to win by any means -- honest or not. With the help of Constructicon Scrapper's newly completed invention, Megatron acquires the various abilities of the other Decepticons by absorbing the properties of their special power chip rectifiers. The strength transfer proves a great success, but to avoid disclosure of his deceit, Megatron orders the Constructicons to break into the Autobot base and destroy Teletraan I before the contest is over. Like gladiators, the opposing leaders wrestle, but Optimus Prime is helpless against his greatly enhanced adversary, unable to grasp how Megatron could have so many powers. As the Autobots return to base to prepare for banishment, however, they find the Dinobots busy deflecting the Constructicons. The Autobots discover Megatron's deception, but the Constructicons band together to form the colossal Devastator, who makes short work of the Dinobots. But as Devastator stands triumphant, one of Hound's holograms distracts him long enough for a laser blast to split him up into the individual Constructicons. Free of their obligation to leave Earth, the Autobots open fire on their eternal enemies and send them plunging into a pit of molten lava.
