Buffeted by the immense force of the crystal mine explosion, Optimus Prime tumbles helplessly down the mountainside. Fortunately, he and Roller remain unscathed, but there is no sign of Bumblebee or Sparkplug. Several minutes later, however, a thorough search results in Jazz locating them behind a pile of rubble. But just as the Autobots exult in the apparent destruction of their enemies, the Decepticons blast free and once again manage to abscond with their pickings. Later, at Autobot Headquarters, Hound and Mirage watch over the captive Ravage. Their conversation inspires Hound to use his holographic abilities to dupe the Decepticons. Having learned of their foes' plans to attain rocket fuel, they leak false information of a secret supply to Ravage and allow him to flee. But as the Decepticons appear at the bogus rocket site, the Autobots find that they have themselves been fooled, fighting dummies while the real Decepticons storm the rocket base at Cape Carlson. The Decepticons' space cruiser is by now complete and fully loaded with energon cubes. As they prepare to leave behind their enemies and the planet Earth, the Autobots prepare to make one final effort to prevent them from achieving their goal. The attempt fails, however, and the space cruiser soars upward. At this point, Starscream endeavors to rid himself of Megatron to become the new leader of the Decepticons, a desire he has already demonstrated on more than one occasion. But as Starscream readies to execute his leader, Mirage materializes, blasts a crucial component, and, despite receiving a blast from Starscream, manages to leap to safety. The space cruiser plunges into the ocean -- and disappears. At last secure in their victory, the Autobots prime their own ship for imminent return to Cybertron.
