Smokescreen and other Autobots, heading home in the toy rocket they got from their alien friend Aaron, find themselves running out of power. They are intercepted by a large freighter and taken prisoner. They are all disabled except Smokescreen, who escapes suspended animation due to insufficient power on the ship. He befriends their captor, alien freighter captain and gambler Bosch, who is treated to a display of Smokescreen's own gaming abilities. They agree to form a partnership and travel to Monacus, famous as the biggest gambling planet in the universe. There, they plan to win enough energon chips to re-energize Bosch's ship as well as return the Autobots to normal. However, the loan sharks of Sheol turn a cold shoulder to them, despite the offer of the other Autobots as collateral. They have more success with Lord Gyconi, who agrees to an energon chip loan against the Autobots, albeit at horrendous interest. Unfortunately, Bosch and Smokescreen lose all of their winnings at a casino and thus have to forfeit the Autobots to Gyconi, who uses them in arranged fights against monstrous aliens. Meanwhile, Astrotrain, Ramjet and Dirge touch down on Monacus to confront Gyconi, who has been embezzling energon from an enterprise with Megatron. Smokescreen encounters Devcon, an Autobot bounty hunter on the hunt for Decepticons, and the two team up to reclaim the Autobots and put Gyconi out of business. A confrontation follows, which ends as Gyconi and the Decepticons narrowly break away--with Devcon in close pursuit--in the midst of a blanket of smoke from Smokescreen. The Autobots are normalized, and for once, indulge in a bit of leisure, hitting another casino to scrounge up the energy needed to return home.
