Autobot architect Grapple designs a gigantic tower that will make use of enormous solar panels to draw energy from the sun. Its tremendous potential notwithstanding, Optimus Prime disallows the construction of the tower, as the Decepticons would no doubt do anything to obtain control of it. After being called out to fix Powerglide, downed in a battle against the Decepticon jets, Grapple and Hoist are cornered by the Constructicons on their way home, who claim to have left Megatron because they feel underappreciated by their leader. Grapple sympathizes, and upon the promise of help to build his tower, agrees to combine forces with the Constructicons. They need energy to make the project happen, however, so the Constructicons promise to get the needed supplies. Returning to the Decepticon base, they are met with accusations of treason, but explain to Megatron that they are actually setting up Grapple, planning to steal his solar power tower once it reaches completion. Megatron allows them to carry out the scheme, allotting enough energon to build the tower. As the construction takes shape, the Autobots notice that Grapple and Hoist are missing. Powerglide discovers them working with the Constructicons and the Autobots journey there for answers. Shortly before their arrival, however, the solar power tower is completed and Grapple and Hoist are betrayed and imprisoned by the Constructicons. The Autobots reach the tower and a raging fracas arises. Autobot Smokescreen tricks the giant Devastator into destroying the tower, leaving the Decepticons no choice but to surrender their ground and retreat. Grapple and Hoist are extricated, ashamed of their actions. Optimus Prime accepts their apologies as Grapple wistfully contemplates his brief moment of triumph.
