As Optimus Prime adjusts to his renewed lease on life, Sky Lynx recounts the many events leading to Optimus's resurrection, from Jessica and Swofford's retrieval of him to Swofford and Morgan's attempts to infect his inanimate body to the scattering of the virus, dubbed the Hate Plague, to the steps taken to revive the former Autobot leader. At once grateful for and incredulous of the Quintesson's involvement, Optimus asks him to help repair the few Autobots who have so far avoided contagion. As Blurr, Kup, Blaster, and Bumblebee -- reconstructed and renamed Goldbug -- exult in his return, Optimus realizes that the Matrix of Leadership might provide him with an answer to the heinous threat. However, as Rodimus Prime still possesses the Matrix, Jessica Morgan suggests Optimus coat himself with the radiation-impervious alloy in order get it back. But in order to do so, an alliance must be formed with the Decepticons to gain the use of the alloy they purloined. Shortly after, as Galvatron struggles to evade his tainted followers on Charr, the Autobots arrive to save him. The Decepticon leader grudgingly agrees to take them to the pilfered supply, but the journey proves both strenuous and dangerous, as nearly all of the Autobots are infected before they reach the Decepticon lair. There, the impatient Galvatron turns on them, but after he is dealt with and the alloy is loaded into Optimus's trailer, Cyclonus comes upon them, and only Optimus and Sky Lynx manage to break out of there unsoiled. Returning to safety, Optimus is covered with the metal and immediately hunts down Rodimus, reclaiming the Matrix after a most tricky encounter with his successor. Optimus then travels far into the receptacle and learns that the only way to counter the madness is with wisdom. Just as contaminated Decepticons prepare to kill him, Optimus awakens and releases the power of the Matrix, whose forceful surges course through the entire planet and beyond and restore balance to the universe. The scientists apologize to Optimus as Galvatron voices esteem for his enemy and declares, for once, a day of concord.
