A group of Decepticons attack an India-based solar power station to divert the Autobots while Rumble shakes up Autobot Headquarters, enabling Laserbeak to capture Sparkplug unhindered. Sparkplug is to be the guinea pig for the new and brilliant ally to the Decepticons, Dr. Arkeville, and his hypno-chips. Able to control the will of any individual, the device is meant to turn the entire population of Earth into slaves with no mind of their own. The Autobots successfully retrieve Sparkplug, but as they later effect repairs with his help, the Decepticons bypass the security systems of Teletraan I to attack them in their very midst. The Autobots attempt to retaliate, but their weapons malfunction. Spike and the Autobots then realize the shocking truth: Sparkplug sabotaged Teletraan I and all of his friends. But as the Decepticons prepare to destroy their foes, Spike causes Teletraan I to release masses of fire-retardant foam, which short-circuits their weapons, forcing them to retreat. Sparkplug briefly struggles to escape the hypnosis, but the mind control proves too strong. Refusing even to acknowledge his relationship with Spike, he leaves with the warning that they will be enemies when they meet again. The next step in Megatron's insidious scheme is the construction of a new and monumental spacebridge. Comprised of three enormous energy pylons, once activated, the bridge will be able to bring into Earth's orbit none other than Cybertron. As the Decepticons activate the first two energy pylons, the Autobots once again strike. Optimus Prime stops Megatron from activating the final pylon, only to be faced with the dilemma of seeing either Earth or Cybertron destroyed. With considerable reluctance, Optimus finds no other option but to allow the spacebridge transfer to take place.
