COLOUR SYSTEM

As you roam the multitudinous little alcoves and byways of THE CYBERTRON CHRONICLE, you will no doubt take note of certain words and phrases appearing in specific colours. I realize that this could appear random and therefore might be confusing, but there is, as is usually the case, a system to my madness. For your benefit, here follows an overview of the thinking behind these colours and the context(s) within which they are utilized:

TRANSFORMERS CHARACTERS

1. When the name of an Autobot appears, it is "Autobot Blue," a common fan reference to the optical colour of most Autobots. Nervous security director Red Alert enjoyed the spotlight in the second-season episode AUTO BERSERK.

2. When the name of a Decepticon appears, it is "Decepticon Red," a common fan reference to the optical colour of most Decepticons. From the beginning, ruthless Decepticon leader Megatron showed an unmatched desire for power.

3. When a human character is mentioned, his or her name is shown in an approximation of human complexion. Just as Spike Witwicky had played an important part in the Pre-Movie era, his son Daniel filled a similar Post-Movie role.

4. The names of specific characters worthy of reference are shown in individual, physically dominant colour. King Nergill from the second-season episode ATLANTIS, ARISE! and Unicron, the planet-eater, are memorable villains.

OTHER REFERENCES

1. References to people, companies, and other institutions are shown in GOLD. The TV series, funded by major toy company Hasbro, Inc., featured some of the greatest voice actors going, including Corey Burton and Frank Welker.

2. References to movies and TV series are shown in THIS colour. Before THE TRANSFORMERS, voice actor Neil Ross had made a mark in other animated series, such as G.I. JOE and VOLTRON: DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE.

3. Literature is referenced in THIS colour. Astrotrain paraphrased part of a 1924 newspaper article titled BREATHING SPACE -- by famous journalist and critic Henry Louis Mencken -- in the second-season episode TRIPLE TAKEOVER. This, incidentally, is the reason why the colour is used for the TRANSFORMERS title in the THE COMIC JOURNAL.

4. Quotations are denoted in SILVER and italics. Most common to 60 ASTROMINUTES, but also to biographies in the VOICE ACTORS guide. In the 1960s, actor Jack Angel won a Photoplay Magazine award as best regional DJ in Portland, Oregon. But, as he says, "the best award was always that they called me back." It also applies when character dialogue is quoted, except on occasion, such as the interspersed lines of dialogue used in my interviews.
